Worrying Number of People Now Engage in Vaping, States Global Health Organization
Over 100 hundred million people, comprising at least 15 million minors, now employ e-cigarettes, propelling a new wave of nicotine habit, as stated by current worldwide health reports.
Minors are, typically, nine times more likely than adults to engage in vaping, per current international data.
Vaping devices are driving a "recent wave" of nicotine addiction, stated a senior health representative. "They are promoted as risk reduction but, actually, are addicting youth on nicotine at younger ages and threaten compromising decades of improvement."
Adolescents Being 'Focused On'
"Numerous of individuals are ceasing, or avoiding tobacco consumption because of tobacco control initiatives by states across the planet," the representative said.
"As an answer to this significant improvement, the tobacco industry is pushing back with novel nicotine devices, actively aiming at adolescents. Authorities must respond faster and more vigorously in enacting established tobacco-control regulations," the representative further stated.
The e-cigarette figures are an estimate since some states - 109 in total, and many in African and Asian regions - lack information.
According to the report, as of recent February this period, at bare minimum 86 million e-cigarette users were adults, primarily in high-income countries.
And at bare minimum 15 million teenagers between the ages of 13 and 15 currently use e-cigarettes, according to research from 123 countries.
Although several countries have made efforts to implement e-cigarette rules to address underage vaping in the past few years, by the close of 2024, 62 nations still had no policy in operation, and 74 nations had no age limit at which e-cigarettes may be acquired, reports the medical body.
Meanwhile, tobacco consumption has been declining - from an projected 1.38 billion users in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024.
Frequency of tobacco consumption among females dropped the most - from 11% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2024.
With men, the reduction was from 41.4% in 2010 to 32.5% in 2024.
But one in five of grown-ups internationally still employs tobacco.
Tobacco use is associated to several illnesses, including cancer.
Professionals state vaping is significantly less damaging than cigarettes, and can help you quit smoking. It is not recommended for individuals who avoid tobacco.
Vaping devices avoid burning tobacco and do not produce resin or carbon monoxide, a pair of the most harmful substances in tobacco smoke. They include nicotine, which can be habit-forming.
