The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Intense Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features several notable adjustments:

  • Every squad has just 8 human participants, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by real players grant complete experience points, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

In short, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives more options for gamers seeking different ways to enjoy the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Player Responses: Anger to Praise

"People want real players. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," and another lists all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Concerns and Player Feedback

All that said, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the community meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
