The former Liverpool manager says a return to manage Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, indicated that a future comeback remains a possibility. Klopp, after a transformative nine-year spell which brought Champions League success and ending the club's long wait since 1990, currently occupies roles in a global football capacity for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity to Germany's league body.
Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed the Premier League last season, but many fans who revere Klopp would embrace the notion that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he shared with Steven Bartlett: “I stated I refuse to lead a different club on English soil. Therefore in case it's my former club...yeah. It's plausible.”
“I’m 58, so I might decide later on, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about what circumstances must arise to bring him back to management, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “It's unclear to me, My present work fulfills me,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing during downpours through long matches; I don’t miss going to interviews multiple times weekly or having 10-12 interviews a week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant with the team having a nice chat, I appreciate that. Success was frequent meaning regularly positive atmosphere in the building. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended for his successor, praising him for the adjustments which secured the championship last campaign. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches across various tournaments after a summer spending spree, though he denied the notion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker like Florian Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, superb talent. This is a well-built balanced team. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of Diogo Jota, a player he signed while in charge, and the effect for the team. The forward lost his life in a car crash together with his sibling this past summer.
“Who can fill the void of such an individual? This isn't just regarding his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the dressing room missing him. I still cannot speak properly about it. A profound tragedy for the entire squad too. No one within the club would cite it for poor performances yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Coping with it on a personal level is difficult. Overwhelming.”
