Paceman Gus Atkinson Compounds England's Injury Concerns.

'Major setback' for the touring side after Atkinson goes off due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson further complicated the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the ground on the second morning of the fourth Ashes Test versus the Australians.

Atkinson experienced discomfort in his hamstring immediately following a delivery in his spell during the morning session.

Team management indicated the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and required time on the sidelines to undergo evaluation "over the next few hours".

The concluding match in this Ashes battle at the SCG starts on Sunday, 4 January.

The visitors have previously lost fast bowlers one seamer due to knee trouble and another paceman with an abdominal strain during this series.

A replacement bowler was called up as injury reinforcement.

Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was left out of the third Test, only to be brought back for the Melbourne Test as Archer's replacement.

The county bowler showed better form in Melbourne, taking two wickets with the ball, before adding 28 while batting as one of just three England players to get into double digits.

Following a brief spell in Australia's second innings, he came back on Saturday morning and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

Unfortunately, at the end of the fifth over, he bowled a slower ball to the batsman and immediately felt his left hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was brought back for the Melbourne match following his omission the Adelaide game.
