Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
