Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the NFL.
The organization did not mention the player by name in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention Rice directly, posted a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
The receiver was absent for the initial part of this season following an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people hurt. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, he concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
